♥ Béryl is my cousin.
Her father is mine’s double cousin, both by Béryl’s grand-father wich is my grand-father’s cousin (if I don’t make a mistake) and by he’s grand-mother who has also been my grand-father’s brother’s wife and had kids with him before marying Béryl’s grand-father.
I’m not totaly sure of the history (going to check) but it’s something like that.
You have to know that decenies ago (some people still do it), in my father’s area, it was the tradition that a woman should or would marry his husband‘s older brother (or cousin) living.
My own grand-mother refused to do it so some people help her, telling her that she had the right to marry her older son (for the symbol) so as to escape to this type of mariage. It was not forced by the tradition but some people tried to make her believe that she had no choice.
So, she married her son, my father who was only 5 or 6 years old so as to be quiet.
She told me that marrying her husband’s brother was really not an option since she didn’t liked him, didn’t wanted to marry him for any other reason and has already been kidnapped to marry my grand-father. It was enough!
In fact her parents accepted that she married someone she loved (against the communiyty), so she left the village, married far, had a child and forgot the others but one day she came to a market near her village with his daughter and some people kidnapped them both.
There was a kind of marriage calendar between two families so thet when you take a woman in a family you have to reimburse with a woman from your family who will marry a guy from the family your wife comes from, for centuries….
